【摘要】:Thedensity/unitweightofacohesionlesssoilmaybedeterminedbyvariousin-placemethodsinthefieldorbythemeasurementofphysicaldimensionsandmassesbylaboratorysoilspecimens.Thedrydensity/unitweightofacohesionlesssoildoesnotnecessarily,byitself,revealwhetherthesoilislooseordense.Relativedensity/unitweightexpressesthedegreeofcompactnessofacohesionlesssoilwithrespecttotheloosestanddensestconditionasdefinedbystandardlaboratoryprocedures.Onlywhenviewedagainstthepossiblerangeofvariation,intermsofrelativedensity/unitweight,canthedrydensity/unitweightberelatedtothecompactioneffortusedtoplacethesoilinacompactedfillorindicatevolumechangeandstress-straintendenciesofsoilwhensubjectedtoexternalloading.Anabsoluteminimumdensity/unitweightisnotnecessarilyobtainedbythesetestmethods.Note18212;Inaddition,therearepublisheddatatoindicatethatthesetestmethodshaveahighdegreeofvariability.However,thevariabilitycanbegreatlyreducedbycarefulcalibrationofequipment,andcarefulattentiontopropertestprocedureandtechnique.Theuseofthestandardmolds(6.3.1)hasbeenfoundtobesatisfactoryformost1.1Thesetestmethodscoverthedeterminationoftheminimum-indexdrydensity/unitweightofcohesionless,free-drainingsoils.Theadjectivex201C;dryx201D;beforedensityorunitweightisomittedinthetitleandremainingportionsofthisstandardstobebeconsistentwiththeapplicabledefinitionsgiveninSection3onTerminology.1.2Systemofunits:1.2.1Thetestingapparatusdescribedinthisstandardhasbeendevelopedandmanufacturedusingvaluesinthegravimetricorinch-poundsystem.Therefore,testapparatusdimensionsandmassgivenininch-poundunitsareregardedasthestandard.1.2.2Itiscommonpracticeintheengineeringprofessiontoconcurrentlyusepoundstorepresentbothaunitofmass(lbm)andaunitofforce(lbf).Thisimplicitlycombinestwoseparatesystemsofunits;thatis,theabsolutesystemandthegravitationalsystem.Itisscientificallyundesirabletocombinetheuseoftwoseparatesetsofinch-poundunitswithinasinglestandard.Thistestmethodhasbeenwrittenusingthegravitationalsystemofunitswhendealingwiththeinch-poundsystem.Inthissystem,thepound(lb
