【摘要】:Thistestmethodissuitableasafieldtesttoevaluatethesurfacedrainage,andinsomecases,theinternaldrainageofthesurfacecourseofapavement.Whenusedwithothertests,theoutflowtimemaybeusedtoevaluatethetextureproducedbyanasphaltconcretemix,afinishingmethodusedonPortlandcementconcretepavement,andrefinishingoperationsonanoldpavementsurface.TestresultswillcorrelatewithothermethodssuchastheCTMeter(TestMethodE2157),MPD(PracticeE1845),andMTD(TestMethodE965).Note18212;ThereciprocaloftheoutflowtimeishighlycorrelatedwiththeMPDexceptwhenthesurfaceishighlyporoussincetheMPDisameasureofthesurfacetextureanddoesnotaccountforthewaterflowingthroughthesurfacepores.Theoutflowtimesmeasuredbythismethodareanindicationonly,andarenotmeanttoprovideacompleteassessmentofthepavementsurfacefriction,orwetweathersafetycharacteristics.Thistestmethoddoesnotnecessarilycorrelateoragreewithothermethodsofmeasuringpavementsurfacecharacteristics.Itisuptotheoperatortodeterminethecorrelationofeachmethodconsidered.1.1Thistestmethodcoverstheconnectivityofthetextureasitrelatestothedrainagecapabilityofthepavementthroughitssurfaceandsubsurfacevoids.Thisisaspecificdevicethattimeshowlongittakesaknownquantityofwater,undergravitationalpull,toescapethroughvoidsinthepavementtextureofthestructurebeingtested.Thetechniqueisintendedtoprovideameasureoftheabilityofthepavementtorelievepressurefromthefaceofvehiculartiresandthusanindicationofhydroplaningpotentialunderwetconditions.Afasterescapetimeindicatesathinnerfilmofwatermayexistbetweenthetireandthepavement,thusmoremicro-texturecouldbeexposedtoindentthefaceofthetireandmoresurfacefrictionavailabletothetire.Thelowerthenumberofsecondsittakestoevacuatethewater,thelowerthewaterpressureunderthetire.Itwillbeuptotheoperatortocomparetheresultsofthistesttootherpertinentfactorssuchasexpectedrainfallintensityandfrequency,aggregatetype,consistencyoftexture,grade,slope,expectedvehicularspeed,andaccidenthistory,todeterminetherelationshipbetweentheoutflowmeterreadingandthelikelihoodofhydroplaningonagivensurface.Comparingtheoutflowmeterreadingofapavementknowntohaveahistoryofhydroplaning,againstonewithagoodhistory,withallotherfactorssimilar,willgivetheoperatoranindicationoftheoutflowmeternumberthatwillbenecessarytopromotewetweathersafety.1.2Theresultsobtainedusingthistestmethodarerelatedtothemeanhydraulicradiusofapavedsurfaceandmaycorrelatewithothermethodstomeasuretexture.1.3Theresultsobtainedusingthistestmethodarerelatedtothemeantexturedepth(MTD).1.4ThevaluesstatedineitherSIunitsorinch-poundunitsaretoberegardedseparatelyasstandard.Thevaluesstatedineachsystemmaynotbeexactequivalents;therefore,eachsystemshallbeusedindependentlyoftheother.Combiningvaluesfromthetwosystemsmayresultinnon-conformancewiththestandard.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitati......
