【摘要】:Bydefinitionthetensilestrengthisobtainedbythedirectuniaxialtensiletest.Butthetensiletestisdifficultandexpensiveforroutineapplication.Thesplittingtensiletestappearstoofferadesirablealternative,becauseitismuchsimplerandinexpensive.Furthermore,engineersinvolvedinrockmechanicsdesignusuallydealwithcomplicatedstressfields,includingvariouscombinationsofcompressiveandtensilestressfields.Undersuchconditions,thetensilestrengthshouldbeobtainedwiththepresenceofcompressivestressestoberepresentativeofthefieldconditions.Thesplittingtensilestrengthtestisoneofthesimplesttestsinwhichsuchstressfieldsoccur.Sinceitiswidelyusedinpractice,auniformtestmethodisneededfordatatobecomparable.Auniformtestisalsoneededtoensurethatthediskspecimensbreakdiametrallyduetotensilepullingalongtheloadingdiameter.Note28212;Notwithstandingthestatementsonprecisionandbiascontainedinthistestmethod;theprecisionofthistestmethodisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting.Reliabletestingdependsonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthesefactors.1.1Thistestmethodcoverstestingapparatus,specimenpreparation,andtestingproceduresfordeterminingthesplittingtensilestrengthofrockbydiametrallinecompressionofadisk.Note18212;Thetensilestrengthofrockdeterminedbytestsotherthanthestraightpulltestisdesignatedasthex201C;indirectx201D;tensilestrengthand,specifically,thevalueobtainedinSection9ofthistestistermedthex201C;splittingx201D;tensilestrength.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesinparenthesesaremathematicalconversionsandareprovidedforinformationonly.1.3Alldimensionandforcemeasurements,andstresscalculationsshallconformtotheguidelinesforsignificantdigitsandroundingestablishedinPracticeD6026.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
